Rumour - Assassin’s Creed III to spawn extensive DLC, “season pass”
An alleged GameStop leak has apparently outed serious DLC plans for Assassin’s Creed III.
Kotaku received an image of what is said to be a message circulated to GameStop employees, as a thank you for meeting pre-order goals.
The letter states Ubisoft is busy “creating a complementary development team that will begin work on post-launch episodic content”.
Employees are asked to inform customers of a “season pass” on Assassin’s Creed III DLC, which will presumably give access to all DLC released during a set period of time. Interestingly, the pass is mentioned as an additional pre-order item, rather than appearing as a free bonus with pre-orders or special editions.
Both Brotherhood and Revelations received one major post-launch DLC pack - The Da Vinci Disappearance and the Lost Archives respectively - but otherwise DLC for the series has been largely contained to multiplayer expansions and launch day bonus content.
Assassin’s Creed III is due on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 at the end of October, and will arrive on PC before the end of the year.

I’m pretty sure I read about this ‘online pass’ thing on PSN weeks ago, when they put up the game for pre-order there. The Special Edition available there, one that was closer to 99€ if I recall correctly, offered some goodies plus a ‘season pass’ that would offer ‘major discounts’ on all future DLC for the game.
To be entirely honest, these pre-order bonuses are really getting out of control. I was going to pre-order the Freedom Edition courtesy of GameStop last week, only to found out that it was sold out. Then I did some research on all the other editions available and found out that the Freedom Edition, which (to my knowledge) is the costliest of the bunch didn’t include all the extra missions they’re throwing in with hte pre-orders/Collector’s Editions. I found out that in addition to the mission ‘Ghost of War’ that comes with the ‘Join Or Die’ Edition and ‘Lost Mayan Temple’ that (exclusively?) comes with the Freedom Edition, there’s one last edition that’s available at very few stores, one being Ubi’s own shop - a ‘Special Edition’ that comes with the mission ‘A Dangerous Secret’.
And I just wanted the full game. God damn it.
I pre-ordered the game just yesterday. ‘Join or Die’ Edition, that comes with three pieces of pre-order DLC - Captain of The Aquila and Colonial Assassin packs plus an extra character for multiplayer. 77.70€, including shipping.
Hopefully, the rest of the pre-order stuff (namely the missions) will be available post launch.

I don’t like the season pass at all. It makes people think they get a good deal, but in fact a season pass makes sure the game gets more and more expensive DLC.

I never bother with these passes, just wait a few months/year and get the complete edition.

@4 - you and I both! I only hope more people would hold off day-1 buying. It’s all getting a bit ridiculous.

Oh GREAT MORE DLC!!! Oh, wait… I totally don’t care. I NEVER buy dlc. Its just better to wait for the INEVITABLE “game of the year” edition.
…and if you wait just a couple weeks after that you can get it for $20.
